The downpour started just as our paths crossed on Beach 169th—you on your afternoon run by the beach and me heading home from a beach day at Tilden. We looked each other's way as we passed by.
I hustled to the bus stop shelter to duck out from the icy rain then noticed you squeeze into the crowded stop just like I had. (funny eavesdropping story that I'll have to tell you about when i see you ;)
We waited for a vehicle of any kind to rescue us from the rain and our drenched outfits and that's when the fiasco ensued.
The ferry shuttle breezed on by after looking dead at us, then the two Q35's pulled up. The first pulled up past the stop, so we assumed we needed to take the one behind it. But when that driver opened her doors, she said we needed to take the other one which was literally driving away as she spoke. I gave her the 'okay what now, ya can't do us dirty like that' look and gestures, tho, she clearly couldn't've been bothered to give a damn, because she pulled away too.
At this point, you noticed the first bus stuck at the light and sprinted full tilt through the river in the street to bang on the doors until he opened up. After letting us on, he gave you some sorry-ass excuse and we just rolled our eyes and sat down. (you were so not having it which, no doubt, saved our asses heh.)
Across the bridge, I decided I'd try doubling back on a Q35 south bound to take the ferry now that we were out of the rain. When I looked back to say hi, a guy was shuffling me off the bus as he tried to get off at the stop and the next bus was in just a few minutes, so I hopped off and made sure to turn around to see if I could see you once more. And sure enough, you looked up and waved. I smiled and started waving back as the bus pulled away.....
I'd so love the chance to say hi. Maybe we can have a laugh about it over a coffee and a run on the beach together?
(You were wearing blush pink running bottoms and a grey sports bra.... tell me what I was wearing so i know it's you ;)
