Just before noon on the M train from Brooklyn
Tuesday March 14
You wore red and read a white paperback
Raven hair tumbling over your shoulders
I wore a gray cap and read The God of Small Things
You exited at Broadway-Lafayette
Pausing just before the doors opened
To turn to me and say you loved Roy's novel
I smiled and agreed
Too captivated by you to say more
Then the doors were open and you were gone
And I rode the rest of my way
Deeply regretting not exiting with you
And thinking how life turns on such momentous moments
I will be finished the novel imminently
And would absolutely love to discuss it with you
Let's give the sliding doors another try
